Adviser, Practice of the Year finalists named

Australia's best financial advisers and advice businesses have been recognised as the Association of Financial Advisers and Zurich announced the finalists for the 2017 AFA Adviser and Practice of the Year awards.

The AFA Adviser of the Year Award, now in its 15th year, recognises premier financial advisers who make a marked contribution to the betterment of financial literacy both for their clients and their community. The accolade rewards leadership, innovation, customer focus and professional excellence.

Vying for the title this year will be Charlie Fraser of Shadforth Financial Group, Fortify Financial's Glen James and Julia Schortinghuis of Lighthouse Capital.

Likewise, the AFA Practice of the Year Award is presented to a unique business using outstanding, innovative processes to consistently deliver quality advice to clients.

This year's finalists for the award include Australian Financial Risk Management, MEDIQ and PFG Financial Services.

AFA chief executive Phil Kewin described the awards as the most demanding and rigorous advice awards reflecting the exacting demands of the modern consumer and what should be expected of a financial adviser or practice.

He acknowledged all the finalists for investing in themselves and their business, noting that to reach this stage of the judging process is an achievement in itself.

"Not to mention all of those who are striving to be the best who did not make this year's finalists. They should be all very proud, and I congratulate them all for their commitment. When looking at those representing our profession, we certainly have a lot to be proud of," he added.

Further, Zurich Life and Investments chief executive Tim Bailey praised the exceptional calibre of this year's finalists, recognising them as the advisers and businesses truly driving the advice profession forward.

"Their vision and leadership helps chart a path for their peers, showing how quality advice can be made accessible to more people, ultimately lifting the reputation of the entire profession," Bailey said.

The 2017 AFA Adviser of the Year and Practice of the Year will be announced on 13 October 2017 at the close of this year's AFA National Conference on the Gold Coast.
