Brighter Super hires legal chief from crisis-hit Corporate Travel

Brighter Super has appointed Corporate Travel Management's group chief legal officer and company secretary as its incoming chief legal officer.

Shelley Sorrenson is set to take on the role, effective September 21.

On Friday, Corporate Travel informed investors Sorrenson put her notice in to resign from the firm effective August 14. That is ahead of firm's one-year deadline to provide its financial reports or risk delisting from the ASX.

Sorrenson brings nearly two decades of legal, governance and regulatory experience across financial services, including banking, regulation and superannuation.

She returns to Brighter Super after five years, previously serving as general counsel and company secretary. Brighter Super said Sorrenson was conducive in strengthening the fund's governance and legal capability and facilitated major strategic initiatives, including the integration of Energy Super and the Suncorp Super transaction.

Brighter Super chief executive Kate Farrar said the appointment reflects the super fund's focus on building an even stronger executive team to support growth and deliver for members.

"Shelley is a highly regarded legal and governance leader with deep financial services experience and a strong understanding of our organisation," Farrar said.

"Shelley's track record advising boards and executives in complex, regulated environments will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen the organisation and deliver on our strategy."

Brighter Super added Sorrenson is recognised as a trusted adviser to boards and executive teams, with comprehensive expertise in governance, regulatory compliance and legal risk management.

Sorrenson said she was excited to return to Brighter Super.

"Brighter Super is a purpose-driven organisation with a clear strategic direction and strong culture," Sorrenson said.

"I look forward to contributing to the fund's next phase of growth by driving business strategies that deliver positive outcomes for members."

Farrar added: "As Queensland's third-largest non-government financial institution, we continue to invest in the governance and risk capabilities that support our long-term growth and, most importantly, deliver strong outcomes for our members."
