Former chief financial officer at Rest returns in new role

Rest is welcoming back its former chief financial officer as its inaugural chief commercial officer.

The $100 billion profit to member superannuation fund said it was reshaping its executive team to support the next phase of its long-term growth strategy.

Subject to regulatory approvals, Kulwant Singh-Pangly will rejoin Rest's executive leadership team, reporting to chief executive Vickie Doyle.

The newly created role will see Singh-Pangly overseeing strategy, finance, tax, valuations and investment operations, legal and company secretariat, public policy and advocacy, and strategy procurement and facilities.

The appointment comes as Rest progresses its Super Simple for Life strategy, aimed at supporting members through their working lives and into retirement.

Doyle said Singh-Pangly's return would strengthen the funds leadership capability as it continued to grow.

"Kulwant is a purpose-led and experienced strategic leader with deep commercial, governance, transformation and superannuation experience. He knows Rest well, having previously made a significant impact as chief financial officer, and we are thrilled to welcome him back," Doyle said.

"Kulwant's leadership will help us bring teams along on the journey, enable strong functional leadership and support high performance across the enterprise as we continue to scale, simplify and deliver for members."

Singh-Pangly brings more than 25 years' experience across superannuation, financial services, investment management, insurance, government enterprise and professional services.

Prior to rejoining Rest, he held senior executive positions including group chief financial officer at QSuper and chief operating and financial officer and managing director of business services at Queensland Treasury Corporation.

He previously served as Rest's chief financial officer, giving him familiarity with the fund's operations and strategic direction.

Singh-Pangly said he was looking forward to returning to the fund and contributing to its operations and strategic direction.

"Rest has a clear purpose, strong momentum and an important role to play in helping millions of Australians achieve their best retirement," Singh-Pangly said.

"I am looking forward to working with Vicki, the executive leadership team and teams across Rest to help support strong outcomes for members."
