State Super names former super chief as chair

State Super has appointed a former superannuation chief executive as chair of its board, effective September 1.

Michael Dwyer will take up the role succeeding acting chair Catherine Bolder and brings more than three decades of experience across superannuation, investment management and financial services.

His appointment follows senior leadership roles including chief executive of First State Super, now Aware Super, where he led the fund for 14 years, as well as chair of the NSW Treasury Corporation (TCorp).

Bolger said Dwyer's experience would further strengthen the board's oversight and strategic direction.

"We extend a warm welcome to Michael. His invaluable skills and background will greatly enhance our commitment to acting in our members' best financial interests," she said.

NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said Dwyer's appointment would add significant governance and investment expertise to State Super.

"He demonstrated exceptional leadership through his stewardship of the TCorp board and his experience in the superannuation sector makes him well-suited to contribute to State Super's objectives and strategic direction," Mookhey said.

Dwyer said he was looking forward to working with the board and executive team as the fund continues to focus on delivering for members.

"I am honoured to be appointed to the State Super Board and look forward to working with my fellow Board members and State Super's leadership team," he said.

In addition to his previous executive roles, Dwyer currently serves as a director of Iress and the Sydney Financial Forum and is a member of ASIC's Consultative Panel.
