Nomura AM shuffles global listed real estate teamBY KARREN VERGARA | FRIDAY, 7 AUG 2026 12:20PMNomura Asset Management Australia has restructured its global listed real estate team amid the exit of its lead James Maydew, who also served as the local chief executive. Maydew resigned from the post of head of global listed real estate on July 24, before ultimately leaving the group to pursue other opportunities. His departure comes less than 12 months after Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) sold its North American and European public investments business comprising equities, fixed income, and multi-asset offerings to Nomura. This included offloading the global listed real assets business. The deal finalised in December 2025. Nomura acquired the business in its entirety, including all assets, teams, offices and operating platform. There were about 700 employees affected. Maydew joined MAM in 2022 as head of global listed real estate. Prior to that, he was with AMP Capital for 16 years, starting out as an investment analyst and moving up the ranks to lead the global listed real estate business. Matthew Hodgkins took over Maydew's role of head of global listed real estate. Based in Chicago, Hodgkins also hailed from AMP and MAM. He remains the lead portfolio manager for the Americas listed real estate strategy. James Holliday-Smith remains head of the Australian listed real estate team and works closely with Hodgkins on Nomura's real estate portfolios, client interactions and asset growth. As responsible entity for the Nomura Australian Listed Real Estate Fund, Macquarie Investment Management (MIM) told investors there were "no changes to the global listed real estate team's investment style, philosophy, or process and the investment objective of the fund will remain unchanged." "The global listed real estate team will continue to operate seamlessly across Chicago, London, Hong Kong and Sydney with no change to client coverage, operations or strategy," MIM said. The fund oversees about $84.2 million in assets under management. It aims to provide total returns after costs and before tax above the S&P/ASX 200 A-REIT Accumulation Index on a rolling 12-month basis. Related News |
