MAM, GIC partner to deliver Anthropic data centres at scaleBY RIDDHIMA TALWANI | TUESDAY, 11 AUG 2026 11:28AMMacquarie Asset Management (MAM) has partnered with Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC to deliver data centre infrastructure at scale to Anthropic under long-term agreements. The partnership between the three firms will establish a new platform, Theseus Infrastructure, to develop, operate and lease data centres purpose-built for Anthropic's growing capacity needs for its artificial intelligence (AI) models. The parties will work together to identify and develop new sites with an initial focus in the United States. While funds managed by MAM will, together with GIC, own the platform and fund the majority of the equity for each project, Anthropic will be the anchor tenant for the sites. "Demand for Claude continues to grow rapidly across businesses, developers, and consumers, and meeting that demand requires significant new compute," MAM said. "Anthropic is partnering with Macquarie Asset Management and GIC, drawing on Macquarie's global expertise developing, financing, and operating large-scale digital infrastructure, and GIC's deep experience investing in infrastructure around the world." Anthropic has committed to cover electricity price increases consumers may face from these sites, in line with its commitment earlier this year. "These commitments are the beginning of our efforts to address data centres' impact on energy costs," Anthropic had said earlier in the year. "Where we work with partners to develop data centres for handling our own workloads, we make these commitments directly." It committed to paying 100% of the grid upgrades needed to interconnect the data centres, paid through increases to its monthly electricity charges. Data centres can raise consumer electricity prices through requiring costly new or upgraded infrastructure like transmission lines or substations. New electricity demand can also tighten the market, pushing up prices. MAM added the planned developments will require significant capital investment and create thousands of construction jobs and permanent operational roles in the communities where the sites are located.
