GESB names chief executive

GESB, Western Australia's public sector super fund, has named a new chief executive following the departure of long-serving leader Ben Palmer earlier this year.

Joann Wilkie will replace Paul Taylor, who has been in the role on an interim basis since March, as chief executive on August 12. Taylor will return to his post as chief investment officer, the fund said.

Wilkie's career spans nearly three decades across different parts of the public sector, and brings extensive experience in public policy, finance and economic leadership, having led major organisations and reform initiatives throughout her career.

Most recently, she was the under treasurer of the Department of Treasury and Finance WA for over a year, following a seven-year stint at New South Wales Treasury as deputy secretary. She also stationed at the Commonwealth Department of Finance and Treasury previously.

Notably, Wilkie was awarded the Public Service Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to public administration.

GESB said Wilkie's appointment came as GESB continues to focus on delivering strong outcomes for members, modernising services and strengthening capabilities for the future.

Commenting, GESB chair Jo Gaines said Wilkie's experience and leadership will support the organisation and its members moving forward.

"Joann is an accomplished and respected public sector leader whose experience in governance, finance and organisational leadership will be a great asset to GESB," Gaines said.

The board also acknowledged and thanked Taylor for his leadership, noting that "he will continue to play an important role in GESB's ongoing success."

Meanwhile, soon after leaving the fund, Palmer was appointed as the chief executive and managing director of the then newly-formed Affinity Funds Management, a subsidiary of the Perth-based Affinity Capital Group.
