JANA Investment Consultants appointed a former Victorian Funds Management Corporation executive in the newly created role of head of quantitative applications.
Michael Watt was chief executive and principal consultant at PortfolioMetrics for almost two years before he moved to JANA in July to help advance its quantitative analytical capabilities.
Prior to PortfolioMetrics, Watt was head of investment risk at Victorian Funds Management Corporation, responsible for creating and executing risk-related policy, risk and investment analysis models, as well as providing input into portfolio strategy. Over his nearly 10 years at VFMC, he also sat on the investment committee.
He previously held roles at Challenger, County Investments (Invesco), National Australia Bank and Prudential.
Creating this role reflects JANA's desire to evolve its own tools and techniques in quantitative analytics, as well as help clients work through an increasingly demanding and complex field, the asset consultant said.
JANA has made several appointments this year in an effort to boost its footprint.
Its headcount of about 100 is split into 74 investment professionals and 26 corporate and support staff.
John Montague joined the Melbourne-based firm as the new head of operations after working as a consultant for the past year. He reports to chief operating officer Ashleigh Crittle.
Erika Jordan is another recent addition, working as the manager for operational consulting.
