Offering up to 3.75 CPD hours

The Advisers Big Day Out (ABDO), offers financial advisers a one-day event featuring thought leadership presentations, networking, and opportunities for professional development.

The roadshow spans multiple cities, allowing advisers to engage with expert fund managers and stay updated on the latest strategies and trends in diverse asset classes.

Following their participation in ABDO, advisers will gain valuable market projections, insights, and product knowledge, all while earning legislated CPD hours for a full day's attendance.


ABDO is accredited by the Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA) for CPD hours aligned to Legislated learning areas. The Advisers Big Day Out was accredited for 4.5 learning hours in 2023, divided into the following Legislated CPD categories:

  • General: 1.5 hours
  • Technical competence: 3 hours

Michael Watson

Michael has over 20 years' experience in financial services and joined the business in 2013. Prior to joining La Trobe Financial, Michael's career has spanned diverse disciplines including credit, portfolio, marketing and distribution with Big 4 Australian banks and an NBFI. Michael holds an MBA from Deakin University, a Bachelor of Business (Economics & Marketing) from La Trobe University, and additionally obtained a Diploma of Financial Planning and a Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking. Michael resides in Melbourne.

Chris Paton

Chris has over 14 years' experience in banking, asset management and financial services and has held a number of senior roles since joining the business in 2017. Prior to joining La Trobe Financial, Chris worked in Law specialising in the banking and finance sector. Chris holds both Bachelors in Commerce (Distinction) and Law (Hons) and resides in Melbourne.

Stephen Bruce

Stephen Bruce

Stephen joined Perennial Value in April 2000 as an Equities Analyst, before being promoted to the role of Research Coordinator in 2006. In 2007, he became the Deputy Portfolio Manager for the Perennial Value Shares for Income Trust and then became Lead Portfolio Manager in 2011. In 2011, Stephen also became Co-portfolio Manager for the Perennial Value Australian Shares Trust and was promoted to Lead Portfolio Manager in 2018. Stephen has responsibility for overseeing the management of all boarder cap Australian Equities portfolios and provides analyst coverage for the banking, healthcare, telco and agricultural sectors. Stephen commenced his career as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Sydney and has held financial accounting roles with Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank in London. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney and a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales. He is a Chartered Accountant and also a CFA charter holder.

Daniel Roarty

Daniel C. Roarty is the Chief Investment Officer of AB's Sustainable Thematic Equities team, managing a suite of geographically diverse strategies dedicated to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He joined the firm in 2011 as global technology sector head on the Global Research Growth team and was appointed to his current role in 2013. Roarty previously spent nine years at Nuveen Investments, where he co-managed both a large-cap and a multi-cap growth strategy. Today, Daniel plays an active role in the sustainable investing community, acting as a subject-matter expert around the globe.

Phil has over 30 years' investment experience both in asset management and institutional banking. In 10 years managing portfolios and 20 years analysing financial markets/securities, Phil has amassed extensive experience in all major credit segments. These include listed/unlisted, rated/unrated, investment and sub-investment grade, bonds/loans and derivative instruments.

Roy Keenan

Roy is a senior leader within the Fixed Income team at Yarra Capital Management, focusing on Australian Fixed Income and Credit. He has over 30 years' investment experience both in asset management and trading, specialising in credit products since 1995. He has been part of the investment management team for the Yarra Enhanced Income Funds since the Funds' inception in 2002 and continues to manage these Funds. Before transitioning to Yarra Capital Management, Roy was Head of Australian Credit at Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

David Turnbull

David has 30 years' experience in Financial Services, as an Independent Financial Adviser in Europe, and in business development roles, supporting financial planning practices nationally and in particular, across SA and WA. In this time, David has developed expertise in both Investment and Estate planning strategies. Worth noting is David's deep knowledge and experience in education investment funding, having problem-solved firsthand with schools, in their quest to assist families, and finding solutions for those whose goal is to fund for the ever-growing cost of lifelong learning. Since joining Futurity Investment Group, David continues to support financial planners with strategic solutions around education funding, estate planning and intergenerational wealth transfers.

Adam Tyley

Adam has 20 years' experience in Financial Services, as a product provider representative and in business development roles, supporting financial planning practices across Queensland. In this time, Adam has developed a strong understanding of estate planning strategies, personal insurance, and business protection. During his time at TAL, Adam worked closely with some of Queensland's most experienced financial planning practices, followed by a role as State Manager at AIA, heading the largest distribution team in the QLD insurance market. Adam has a deep knowledge of and experience in wealth protection, having built processes and coached a team of FAs in their wealth protection advice offering across a 500,000+ membership base. Adding to this is Adam's time as an associate financial adviser in a boutique advice firm. Adam brings this combined expertise to Futurity Investment Group and continues to support financial planners with strategic solutions around education funding, estate planning and intergenerational wealth transfers. Adam holds a double degree majoring in Communication, Banking & Finance, and a diploma in Business Management and Financial Planning. In 2019 he successfully passed the FASEA exam and finalised his Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning in 2020.
