Former BTFG executive takes on new role

BT Financial Group's former general manager of platforms and investments has stepped into a new role with an emerging platform provider.

John Shuttleworth has been appointed chief executive of Spitfire.

Spitfire's current chief executive Matthew Johnson - who only took on the role in June - will move to the general manager of distribution role as Shuttleworth steps into the top job.

Shuttleworth spent almost 15 years with BTFG, ultimately heading up its platform and investment division consisting of BT Wrap, Asgard and BT Panorama.

"Spitfire has an incredible opportunity. The Australia financial services market is being redefinbed as banks and institutional players divest their wealth management businesses and financial advisers are leaving institutions forming new distribution alliances," Shuttleworth said.

"The Spitfire technology platform has been architected to capitalise on this opportunity. A modern global technology platform that is truly multi-currency, multi asset, with a rich managed accounts capability will be well received by the market."

He added that Spitfire's immediate focus will be on commercialising the investment platform while building out the superannuation and pension offer in Australia and exploring international opportunities for the global platform.

Spitfire executive director and founder Laurence Milne said: "John is ideally suited to lead Spitfire as we move from a start-up culture to a focus on major strategic developments along with delivering strong operational results. John will bring fresh insight and a proven track record of achievement for shareholders."

After leaving BTFG in 2018, according to Shuttleworth's LinkedIn he spent a year self-employed as an investor and start-up mentor.

Spitfire also announced Peter Wilson will join the company as a strategic adviser and a member of the executive leadership team - with a focus on IPO readiness and success.

Wilson was a partner at Greenhill & Co where he led the financial institutions practice including direct transactional experience in the platform space. He has experience leading capital raisings.
