Dexus names funds management executives to steer growthBY MATTHEW WAI | TUESDAY, 4 FEB 2025 11:55AMDexus has appointed two new leaders within its funds management business to drive growth and performance. Michael Sheffield has been appointed as executive general manager, funds management, where he will be responsible for the performance and operations of Dexus' real estate and infrastructure funds platform. Sheffield is an accomplished fund manager with over 30 years of experience; he was the fund manager for the Dexus Wholesale Property Fund for over a decade and was most recently the executive director and head of diversified and infrastructure funds for eight months before the transition. Before Dexus, Sheffield was the chief operating officer and assistant fund manager at Colonial First State Global Asset Management. He was posted at Commonwealth Bank, Investa Property Group, and LendLease earlier in his career. Meanwhile, Jason Howes has been promoted to executive general manager, fund capital and product development. He was the head of alternative and healthcare funds and a fund manager for nearly five years. Howes brings over 25 years' experience to the role, beginning his career at Macquarie Group in 2000. He moved to Fortress Investment Group as a director in 2010 and enjoyed a stint at Lone Star Funds in 2016 as its managing director before joining Dexus. In his new capacity, Howes will be responsible for the development and distribution of new fund products across the Dexus platform. The appointments will enhance the funds management business, with both roles joining the executive committee and reporting to group chief executive and managing director Ross Du Vernet. "Funds management is a key pillar of our strategy, and these appointments elevate our executive focus through two distinct roles," Du Vernet said "One is focussed on driving the performance of our existing funds and the other on evolving the products we offer our clients as their investment needs and the investment opportunities change."
