Bank of Queensland appoints operations chief

Ewen Stafford has previously held the role of chief operating officer at Australia Post and executive general manager finance at National Australia Bank. He is also a former chief financial officer of MLC.

BOQ managing director and chief executive George Frazis said he is excited to bring someone of Stafford's calibre on board.

"He brings more than 30 years' of corporate experience, across finance, operations, strategy and has also delivered complex transformation programs. He will undoubtedly be a great asset during BOQ's own transformation," he said.

"[Stafford's] unique skillset of both financial management and operations, means that we can combine the chief financial officer and chief operating officer roles. Finance and operations are very closely aligned, so I am delighted to find someone who knows both well."

Stafford said: "I am looking forward to taking on role of chief financial officer and chief operating officer. This is a unique opportunity to combine my previous experience in finance, operations and strategy."

Current chief financial officer Matt Baxby, who has held the position for seven years, announced his departure in June.

Baxby said he will step down in mid-October, shortly after the bank announces its full-year results.

No commencement date has been set for Stafford, so in the interim deputy chief financial officer Rachael Kellaway will assume responsibilities.
