Alexis George takes on board appointment

Former AMP chief executive Alexis George has taken on a new board position, five months after announcing her intention to retire.

Zurich Financial Services Australia appointed George as a new independent non-executive director as the insurer continues to expand its operations across Australia and New Zealand.

George most recently served as chief executive of AMP, following senior leadership roles at ANZ including deputy chief executive officer, group executive of wealth Australia and global managing director of insurance for ANZ Wealth.

She has also held executive positions with ING Group, including regional head of operations information technology, marketing and product for Asia Pacific, as well as chief executive of insurance and direct banking for Czech and Slovak Republics and executive director for Australia.

Zurich chair Geoff Summerhayes said George's experience would be valuable as the business continued to grow.

"I'm delighted to welcome Alexis to Zurich's board. She brings exceptional depth and breadth of experience to the role, and her insights will be invaluable as the organisation continues to grow and evolve across Australia and New Zealand," Summerhayes said.

George replaces former independent non-executive director John Mulcahy, who resigned after serving on Zurich's board since 2017. Mulcahy previously served as chief executive officer of Suncorp.

Summerhayes thanked Mulcahy for his contribution to Zurich over almost a decade.

Zurich chief executive Jusin Delaney said George had experience leading large organisations through significant periods of change.

"Alexis has led large organisations through significant change. She is purpose-led with a clear focus on improving customer outcomes and strengthening internal culture," Delaney said.

George said she was pleased to join Zurich at a significant point in the business's growth.

"The business is growing rapidly and occupies a unique position as Australia's only major composite insurer, offering both life and general insurance products," George said.

She said Zurich's investments in technology, partnerships and its people would support its continued development.

George commenced on Zurich's board and the boards of its life and general insurance entities on 10 August 2026.
