BUSSQ to roll out personalised investment solution

BUSSQ is introducing a new offering to members that will enable them to design their investment strategy how they see fit.

The new Foundation + Flex solution is BUSSQ's version of the 'Core and Satellite' approach, it explained, saying it provides flexibility and control to members who want to be more involved in how their superannuation is managed.

Members can choose a Foundation investment option and add Flex options from different asset classes according to their risk preference.

It is to be available from June 1.

BUSSQ chief executive Damian Wills said the solution may appeal to younger members, who are increasingly financially aware and can afford to take more risk with their superannuation.

"The advent of Payday Super will also potentially help even more people see super in the same light as they see their pay - as something to be regularly managed," he said.

"This coupled with the increase in housing prices, potentially putting home ownership out of reach, means super is likely to become the biggest asset at retirement for some people, so it's natural that they would be seeking more control over where it's invested. There is a realisation that this is their money and taking control today can make a real difference to the outcome at retirement.

"It's about reframing super as something to engage with today, rather than waiting until they're almost at the finish line. And because we're a small fund, we'll be right there helping our members if they need support to make these decisions."

Late last year BUSSQ streamlined its product offering, consolidating its accumulation products - BUSSQ MySuper and Premium Choice, which included eight different options and varied types of insurance - into one that provides members with additional investment options and insurance coverage.

The changes to the investment menu come ahead of Bill Watson joining the fund as its new chief investment officer. He is to join this month following about 13 years at First Super as chief executive.
