Briefcase upgrades adviser portfolio reportingBY VINNY VUCAGO | WEDNESDAY, 4 NOV 2026 11:57AMInvestment technology provider Briefcase has upgraded its platform with new performance attribution and tax reporting capabilities. The upgrade was designed to give financial advisers greater insight into portfolio returns and the impact of personalised investment decisions. The enhancements include more detailed benchmark comparisons, analysis of individual holdings and improved visibility into how client-specific exclusions and portfolio optimisation affect performance. Briefcase founder and chief executive Josh Persky said the changes reflect the growing demand for greater transparency and personalisation in portfolio management. "Advisers need to be able to explain not just how a portfolio has performed, but why. As portfolios become increasingly personalised, understanding the contribution of individual holdings, exclusions and investment decisions is essential," Persky said. The platform now allows advisers to compare up to three portfolios, examine exposures arising from exclusions across stocks, industries and environmental, social and governance factors, and access realised and unrealised capital gains and losses. Additional reporting features include downloadable reports and CV exports, while the interface has been reorganised into dedicated tabs covering performance, holdings, transactions, tax information and reporting. Persky said consolidating the insights would help advisers communicate portfolio decisions more clearly to clients. "Technology should make sophisticated portfolio management easier to understand and implement. By bringing performance, personalisation and tax information together, we're giving advisers a clearer picture of what is happening within their clients' portfolios," he said. The upgrade is available automatically to existing Briefcase users, with no additional configuration required. Briefcase specialises in tax-aware direct indexing and personalised investment portfolios, with its solutions accessible through Australian wealth platforms including BT Panorama, Netwealth, Bell Direct, nabtrade and Praemium. The platform enhancements follow the recent appointment of after-tax investing specialist Raewyn Williams to Briefcase's advisory board, adding further expertise in tax-aware portfolio management and direct-indexing. The company said the latest developments reflect its broader focus on bringing institutional investment capabilities to financial advisers through technology and more transparent portfolio reporting.
