Viridian launches national broking businessBY VINNY VUCAGO | TUESDAY, 18 AUG 2026 11:43AMViridian Financial Group has launched Viridian Lending, bringing the mortgage broking operations under a single national brand as the group seeks to strengthen links between brokers and financial advisers. The launch completes the integration of the groups former Smartmove business, which settles more than $1 billion in lending each year, with Cameron Wiles appointed general manager of lending. Viridian chief executive Raamy Shahien said the new business reflected the increasingly interconnected nature of Australians' financial decisions. "Financial decisions are becoming more complex and more interconnected. Lending is no longer just about securing finance - it's increasingly one part of a broader financial picture," Shahien said. "We believe the best client outcomes come when mortgage brokers and financial advisers work more closely together, and that's exactly what Viridian Lending has been built to enable." The launch comes as investors reassess property financing and ownership structures ahead of changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing settings scheduled to take effect from 1 July 2027. Viridian Lending will combine broker autonomy with the technology, operation infrastructure, referral opportunities and broader capabilities of the wider group. Wiles said the model was designed to give brokers further support without compromising their independence. "The future of broking isn't about choosing between independence and support - it's about having both," Wiles said. "Viridian Lending has been built around that belief, giving brokers the technology, infrastructure and support they need to focus on what they do best - building trusted relationships with clients and helping them achieve better financial outcomes." The business is also investing in technology and automation, while exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline workflows and reduce administrative requirements. "As AI continues to evolve, we see significant opportunities to reduce administration and free brokers to focus on the judgement, relationships and complex conversations that clients value most," Wiles said. The model will also provide structured professional development, marketing support and administration through an international office team. Related News |
