An independent investment consultancy has welcomed the former chief investment officer of Commonwealth Bank Group Super as it looks to expand its Australian operations.
Gerard Parlevliet has joined bfinance in the newly-created role of senior strategic advisor, to work closely with Australian director Frithjof van Zyp and senior associate Vishal Sharma.
Parlevliet will focus on enhancing the firm's services for major institutional investors in Australia, including super funds.
He has over 28 years of experience in the super industry, previously as chief investment officer at Commonwealth Bank Group Super.

Parlevliet has won several awards for his work in the industry, including the SelectingSuper 'Industry Service Award' in 2017.
He is currently a non-executive director of Prime Super, La Trobe Financial and the CBHS Health Fund, and volunteers on various committees of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA).
Parlevliet's appointment comes at a time of significant expansion for the firm following the establishment of its Sydney office in 2016, bfinance said.
The firm operates out of eight offices globally - in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific - with more than 300institutional clients across 34 countries.
Van Zyp said the Australian business has grown rapidly since 2015 when the group worked with its first local client.
"Today we have a significant client base across the country including industry super, corporate super, family office, university endowment and insurance asset owners. Through this period the industry has undergone significant change and continues to face pressures; it is essential that we think ahead to how investors' needs will evolve," van Zyp said.
The firm is delighted to be working with Parlevliet, he added.
"His unwavering focus on member outcomes and substantial experience working for super funds will help us to develop our services and add value for our clients," he said.
Parlevliet also commented on his appointment, saying: "I am pleased to be joining the bfinance team. Having been a client in my former role at a super fund, I have experienced first-hand the value that this firm can bring to investors."
"I am looking forward to helping them develop and introduce innovative solutions to the rapidly changing Australian investment market."
