Former Brighter Super investment lead plots return

After a six-month hiatus, former Brighter Super chief investment officer Mark Rider is returning to the superannuation industry, set to join another super fund next month.

Rider has been named general manager, investments at Primer Super, filling the role that was vacated by Michael McQueen, who joined First Super as head of investments earlier this month.

Rider will lead Prime Super's investment team as it continues to strengthen and expand its capability for future growth, the super fund said.

Rider departed the Queensland-based super fund in December 2025 after a four-year stint, and subsequently taking a break from his 40-year career in finance at various financial institutions, including as chief investment officer at Christian Super, and executive capacities at ANZ, UBS, and the Reserve Bank of Australia earlier in his career.

Commenting, Prime Super chief executive Raelene Seales said the appointment reflects the super fund's intention to further extend growth through its investment capabilities.

"Mark's depth of experience and leadership in investment management will be invaluable to our team. We're excited about the perspective he brings and the role he'll play in shaping what's ahead," Seales said.

According to its 2025 annual report, Prime Super manages $8.4 billion for over 140,000 members.

The super fund has also reduced its fixed and asset-based percentage administration fees since June 1, across its accumulation and pension products, while increasing investment fees across different options.
