ASX taps Westpac NZ chief risk officer

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has found a new chief risk officer, hiring from across the Tasman Sea.

Westpac New Zealand chief risk officer Dirk McLiesh will join the ASX on March 3 following the retirement of Hamish Treleaven in September last year, as well as the appointment of Leanne McDougall as the interim chief risk officer.

McDougall will assist throughout the transition period and relinquish her capacity accordingly.

McLiesh brings over 25 years' experience to the role across various institutes in Australia, New Zealand and the US. Prior to Westpac New Zealand, he was the general manager in management assurance and control at the Bank of New Zealand between 2018 and 2020.

Before that he was based in Sydney and held senior titles in NAB and Westpac for over 12 years. He also enjoyed various stints at Microsoft, the Boston Consulting Group and Capital One Financial Corporation in the early stages of his career.

Speaking on the appointment, ASX managing director and chief executive Helen Lofthouse is pleased to welcome a seasoned professional at his calibre.

"McLiesh brings extensive experience as a chief risk officer and risk management leader in listed financial services companies, and has the right skills to drive the continued strengthening and improvement of our risk culture and risk management approach at ASX," Lofthouse said.

"We have a clear program of delivery on risk culture as part of our five-year strategy, and we're making good progress."

She also thanked McDougall for her contributions.

"... Leanne has made a positive impact at ASX, and I'd like to thank her for her contribution," she added.
