Rest appoints first-ever chief of staff

Rest has appointed a senior wealth management leader and superannuation expert from Insignia Financial to take the reins as chief of staff.

The $93 billion industry with around two million members said the appointee, Gideon Lipman, will help the fund "maintain the momentum towards its strategic goals."

Lipman will "work closely" with chief executive Vicki Doyle and the Rest executive team, which includes, chief people officer Amy Murrell, chief services Brendan Daly, chief risk officer Gemma Kyle, and co-chief investment officers Kiran Singh and Simon Esposito - both of whom were appointed in November last year following the departure of Andrew Lill.

Lipman brings over 20 years of experience in superannuation, product management, strategy and transformation.

Most recently, he served as head of product at Insignia Financial, and prior to that spent nearly 15 years at Colonial First State, where he was head of strategy.

"Gideon is a highly respected superannuation leader and I'm delighted he is joining Rest to support our critical mission to make the experience of superannuation simpler and easier for our two million members," Doyle said.

"Gideon's strong member focus and commercial acumen will help Rest ensure we can continue to mobilise our strategy into action to help our members achieve their best-possible retirement outcomes."

Before Lipman's appointment, the fund had a similar senior position filled by Karren Wu, who's since moved onto a new opportunity within Rest.

Separately, as previously reported by Financial Standard, Rest's default MySuper growth option returned 11.19% for calendar year 2024 - underpinned by the continued strong performance of listed share markets, particularly international equites.

Its default option has delivered annual returns of 8.34% since it began in July 1988.
