A new peer-to-peer online forum for financial planners has launched in response to the need for community in a period of immense change for the profession.
Introduced by the Financial Planning Association of Australia at the 2019 FPA Congress, the FPA Community platform will allow members to share their views on topical issues, pose and answer questions, and get feedback from peers.
Dante De Gori, chief executive of the FPA said: "An important benefit of being part of the 14,000-strong FPA membership is immediate access to a community of like-minded professionals."
He pointed to CoreData research which revealed FPA members are seeking more ways to connect and share with their professional peers.
"Specifically, members told us they want a confidential and safe space in which to network with other members that transcends geographic boundaries. We took this feedback on board and we're pleased to launch FPA Community, the new online forum for FPA members," De Gori said.
"Of course nothing beats connecting in person, and the FPA offers over 100 events across Australia each year, including the National Roadshow and annual FPA Professionals Congress."
The Congress, currently underway in Melbourne, was chosen as the place to launch FPA Community.
The secure online tool will be available to the full FPA membership from early December and accessible on all devices.
FPA members can use the new forum to join groups that are relevant to them, create their own profile, add a photo, personal message and join in on public discussions.
De Gori said the FPA understands members have been busier than ever, making taking time out of their week to attend face-to-face professional events difficult.
"We also have remote FPA members spread right across Australia who may have trouble travelling. So FPA Community provides an easy and convenient way to communicate and share with other members online when it suits each member best," he explained.
"At this year's Congress we encourage members to network with fellow Congress delegates, and get in touch with them directly by accessing the list of delegates on FPA Community."
Congress will be the first test for the new tool, with workshop presentations and notes available through FPA Community.
