MLC Life Insurance has appointed a new executive, focused on driving new business in group insurance, from Freedom Insurance Group.
Sean Williamson, most recently chief executive of the embattled Freedom Insurance Group, will join MLC Life this month as executive lead, new business for group insurance.
Williamson's main responsibility will be to create new growth opportunities as it relates to group distribution, the industry fund sector and large corporate market, while maintaining a focus on the customer, the insurer said.
He will report directly to Sean McCormack, chief of group and retail partners.
Commenting on the hire, McCormack said: "Sean has a pivotal role in building and embedding our accelerated growth strategy. His extensive experience in the sector will help us to grow our existing group portfolio, develop new opportunities and boost our credentials in the group insurance market."
"Since the launch of LifeView in 2017, we have clearly demonstrated that we are a leader in innovation and technology. It's a key component of our massive, $600 million investment in our technology transformation, including digital and data, infrastructure, and support services to serve our funds and their members."
Williamson will add more than 25 years' experience across the insurance sector to MLC Life's leadership, having also held roles with the likes of TAL and AIG.
Williamson joined Freedom Insurance in December 2018, tasked with securing a life insurance licence for the ASX-listed company. Just four months later it was announced Freedom would divest all its operations.
