APRA hires former MLC Life executive

The former chief customer officer of group insurance at MLC Life Insurance has joined the prudential regulator.

APRA confirmed Suzanne Smith has taken on the role of general manager of superannuation for the specialised institutions division.

Melbourne-based Smith works alongside general manager of banking Clare Gibney and general manager of insurance Louis Serret. They report to executive general manager of specialised solutions Mark Adams.

She was MLC Life's lead customer officer for the group insurance arm for more than three years and helped develop the Life View digital platform, which provides an integrated insurance experience for trustees, administrators and members.

Sean McCormack will replace Smith, while undertaking his current role as chief retail insurance officer. He will also become chief of group and retail partners.

Prior to MLC Life, Smith held various managerial roles at NAB, joining the bank in March 2009 as general manager of group relationships before moving to other roles in client delivery and sales for asset servicing.

Chief executive David Hackett said Smith was a key member of the leadership team and played an instrumental role expanding MLC Life's group insurance presence by bringing in new business partners, such as Vision Super and Energy Super.

The life insurer recently appointed Louise Portelli as chief customer experience officer in March.

Previously, Portelli worked at KPMG and spent time at Legal & General as the firm's business transformation director.
