MLC Asset Management's Antares Equities business has hired a senior analyst from billionaire John Gandel's family office, as it launches a new fund.
Winston Chong is joining Antares Equities' investment team of nine people which manages $5.1 billion in assets.
Chong was most recently employed at Gandel Group, where he was responsible for fundamental research and portfolio management for four Aussie equities funds.
Prior to this, he was an analyst at Antares and Goldman Sachs.

Antares has also promoted Gehan Gunawardena to quantitative analyst.
Gunawardena joined Antares in 2017 as a performance and risk analyst, and has international experience as a software engineer and quant analyst.
"The appointment broadens the already deep investment knowledge of the Antares team and boosts research experience in mid and smaller cap stocks," MLC Asset Management chief investment officer Jonathan Armitage said.
"At the same time, identifying a candidate as skilled as Gehan from within Antares not only means a seamless transition and great fit, but also highlights our support for developing and promoting strong talent from within."
The two appointments come as Antares launches a new fund, the Antares Ex-20 Australian Equities Fund.
"Investors and advisers are attracted to the Ex-20 strategy given many Australians hold direct shares in many of the top 20 stocks, and are looking to supplement those holdings with a professionally-managed diversified Australian equities portfolios which doesn't double down on the top 20," he said.
"Winston and Gehan's appointments are perfectly timed for the expected growth in this Ex-20 strategy."
MLC Wealth is currently in the process of separating from NAB.
Last month, NAB's asset management business was rebranded to MLC Asset Management.
