AFA names education award finalists

The Association of Financial Advisers has named the  2019 finalists for its AFA Excellence in Education Award.

In its 12th year now, the award recognises "the transformative power of education in advice" and rewards advisers who are "striving for excellence by improving their professional skills and knowledge".

This year's finalists are Kearsten James of Cooper Wealth Management, Joseph Meawad of Trinity Financial Advisers, Ben Nash of Pivot Wealth, and Nicola Schneider of Robina Financial Solutions.

The nominees for the award are judged on how they continually invest in their education and practically apply this when working with clients.

The AFA said the practical application of advisers' knowledge is a key factor, as it considers more than just the advisers' academic qualifications.

AFA chief executive Philip Kewin said consumer awareness, regulatory reform, and "the collective realisation of the growing importance of professional education" has prompted an increasing focus on adviser education in the past decade.

"Excellence in education inspires greater adviser confidence in their ability and greater consumer trust in advice," he added.

TAL head of licensees and partnerships Beau Riley said TAL is proud to continue sponsorship of the AFA Excellence in Education Award, and praised the finalists for demonstrating their commitment in their respective communities to share their knowledge and experience.

The winner will receive an education scholarship for study with Kaplan to the value of $25,000.

Felicity Cooper of Cooper Wealth Management won last year's award.

Financial Standard is the official media partner of the 2019 AFA National Conference, to be held in Adelaide August 28-30.
