I totally agree with Mike O'Neil, lifting the age to 70 is absolute nonsense, it shouldn't even be lifted to 67. It is impossible to get employment over 55, and the numbers on Centrelink are not representative of the real numbers of those over 55 who are unemployed if they have a spouse working. They are not eligible to Centrelink benefits and so no assistance is given to assist them get a job, or retraining offered.. Why don't you ask those who have been unemployed for years due to redunancy or lost of job and have applied for thousands of jobs and do not even get a reply how easy it is to get a job, most well tell you its impossible. Get real. The statement 'Recommendations to increase labour force participation of older Australians' what planet are these people on and do they reside in the real world. I think NOT.

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.

Increase the retirement age to 70, does not nothing to unlock labour force participation for women and older people or boost productivity and GDP. It is an age disadvantage for older people over 40s to find suitable jobs.

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.

Every worker has a different age and stage to where they can/need to retire. Someone who has been working on construction sites for all of their life will find it very hard to work until 70 while someone working a desk job should find it easier, due to the different type of work, to work until 70. Of course, this is different for every person and a blanket lift to the age of 70 would never work
