COVID and Beyond - in the balance
  • Global growth was already weak prior to the COVID-19 lockdown. COVID has created significant economic damage.
  • The financial markets and the 'real' economy are out of step. The central bank cash splash is boosting the former but having little impact on the latter.
  • With interest rates at zero the only practical long-term investment option is equities but it will be a long and uneven haul out of the COVID crater.

Presented by:

  • Bruce Campbell, Strategic Advisor, Pyrford International
  • Michael Angwin, Director Intermediary Business, BMO Global Asset Management

Michael joined BMO in 2014 as the Director of Intermediary Business and is responsible for managing the financial advisory channel within Australia and New Zealand. Prior to joining BMO Michael was a vice President at AQR Australia. He started his career in equities at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and has a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) and Masters in Applied Finance

After graduating from Melbourne University in 1969 Bruce managed the investment operations of an Australian based general insurance company for 12 years and then founded the predecessor company to Pyrford in Melbourne in 1982 - at that stage as part of the multi-national Elders IXL group. In 1987 Bruce moved the investment operations to London and in 1991 headed the buy-out of the investment management subsidiary from the Elders organisation. At that time the company's name was changed to Pyrford International.

Bruce remained Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer until 31 December 2010 at which time he took up the role of Investment Chairman.

Bruce retired from Pyrford on 31 March 2015 and became a Strategic Investment Advisor to Pyrford on 01 April 2015.
