Fresh from winning an Australian fixed income mandate, Vontobel Asset Management has appointed a distribution specialist to strengthen its commitment to the local market.
Andreas Faeste will be responsible for broadening the boutique investment manager's client reach in Australia and New Zealand as senior institutional relationship manager.
Faeste's efforts will focus on the distribution of fixed income capabilities, an area where he has more than 20 years' experience.
Before joining Vontobel, Faeste ran his own marketing and consulting firm, Faeste Consulting. It engaged the likes of Voya Investment Management, Perennial Investment Partners and Deutsche Asset Management. In 2014 it was succeeded by Breakwater Advisory, a marketing, fund placement and advisory business and Faeste became its managing director.
He previously held several executive management positions, working for the likes of ING Investment Management, IAG Asset Management and Westpac Investment Management.
Vontobel head of sales for Australia and New Zealand Bobby Bostic said appointing Faeste shows the firm's desire to showcase investment solutions and continued commitment to the Australian market.
"Australia remains one of the fastest-growing markets with large allocations to both traditional and alternative debt strategies, where we see interesting potential for some of our prime capabilities like emerging debt, multi-sector bond and asset backed securities," he said.
The Swiss firm recently won an Australian fixed income mandate, overseeing emerging markets debt and global equities strategies for Alpha Fund Managers.
Bostic commented: "While our equity portfolios are already well-known for delivering superior long-term investment results, our fixed-interest capabilities, both traditional and alternative debt, have only recently been recognised by the market and we are delighted to have Alpha Fund Managers as our first Australian EM debt client."
