Latest Power50 list unveiled

This year's most influential people in social media within the Australian financial services industry have been unveiled in the latest FS Power50.

Now in its third year, the annual list recognises the leading lights driving the conversation mainly on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Financial Standard narrowed a pool of 400 potential listers identified through @finstd, #finserv, LinkedIn groups and Twitter, including previous Power50 entrants. With the help of leading social media expert Laurel Papworth, the lists were then run through Klout and other reputation measurement engines, focusing on those with a rating of 45 and above.

Making the list this year were well-known industry commentators such as Montgomery Investment Management chief investment officer Roger Montgomery, AMP Capital chief economist Shane Oliver and La Trobe Financial chief executive Greg O'Neill.

Former AFA Adviser of the Year winners Jenny Brown and Eleanor Dartnall also featured, alongside other advice personalities including Charles Badenach, Sarah Reigelhuth and James Sutherland.

Institutional figures such as BT Financial head of investment research and governance Marnie McLaren, Perpetual Investment group executive Michael Gordon and Sunsuper national manager retail and advice Anne Fuchs also featured, as did industry body spokespeople like AFA chief executive Brad Fox.

These individuals are the innovators, influencers and news-breakers who use their online profiles to call the industry to account.

Alongside details of each featured persons' social media presence was also a short assessment of their place within the conversation and how they influence it. The consensus was that the financial services industry has come a long way in the short time the FS Power50 has existed but individuals could do more to enjoy a higher Klout rating in general.
