The race to become this year's Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) Rising Star award winner is on again, but planners must go above and beyond the normal day to day activity to win, according to last year's award winner, Chris Browne.
The annual AFA Rising Star award recognises new advisers who provide holistic advice, are dedicated to client education and strive to contribute to the community and the financial planning industry.
Chris Browne, 2007 AFA Rising Star winner and Financial Design for Life senior financial planner, said prospective winners should demonstrate work above and beyond their role as an adviser.
"Today's young advisers are well qualified and passionate, but exceptional advice is about providing a holistic view. With this in mind a nominees application should include work done beyond the day to day," he said.
"Tell the judges the extras, whether its volunteering, paraplanner mentoring or submissions for financial advice newspaper columns."
ING Australia has been sponsoring the award for three years. "These awards provide an opportunity to recognise exceptional talent from adviser ranks and to promote the overall quality and calibre of financial advice," said Mark Vilo, ING head of dealer groups.
Nominations for the award close on August 1, with the winner announced at the AFA National Conference on 19th of October.
More than 960 delegates registered for this year's AFA National Forum, a 60 per cent jump in delegate number on the previous year.
Both Browne and last year's AFA Adviser of the year, Philip Young, will be presenting at the conferences on how to deal with nervous clients and strategies to expand their financial planning practice.
