Andrew Hamilton will succeed Sharyn Long as chair of SPAA for a fixed two year period, in addition to his current role as managing director for SMSF administrator, Cavendish Superannuation.
The Self-Managed Super Fund Professionals' Association of Australia (SPAA) announced the appointment of Hamilton today. The association's national conference is currently underway in Sydney.

Hamilton said he would use his time in the role to help SPAA drive improvements in the superannuation sector for all Australians.
"SPAA can influence policies that affect the operation of the superannuation industry, and drive improved educational standards for professionals and advisers that will benefit the public while representing the needs of our members," Hamilton said.
"As the Self Managed sector is so fragmented, having a single major body representing trustees, advisers, accountants and auditors provides cohesive representations for all participants. I look forward to devoting time in my capacity as SPAA Chair towards making this happen."
Andrea Slattery, SPAA chief executive, said Hamilton's involvement in the self-managed super fund (SMSF) industry, product design, understanding of compliance and technical knowledge.
"The continued growth of the SMSF sector and future potential changes impacting the industry mean that SMSFs will continue to be front and centre in 2012," said Slattery.
