Commonwealth Bank began 2018 with the creation of a new senior role, welcoming its first managing director, head of global markets research.
Former chief economist for Colonial First State Global Asset Management, Stephen Halmarick, joined CBA in the newly created role this week.
Bringing more than 30 years' experience as an economist, Halmarick's new role combines the existing global markets research functions to provide global coverage of economics, fixed income and rates, FX, credit and commodities.
CBA said the role's creation reinforces its commitment to offering clients unique insights and access to the best data, quantitative and analytics capability.
Commenting on the appointment, CBA executive general manager global markets Andrew Hinchliff described Halmarick as highly respected, saying he is delighted to have him join the team.
"Stephen's extensive experience and established relationships across the Australian and international client and investor base elevate our existing research function and will drive a more customer-friendly digital distribution capability," Hinchliff said.
Halmarick has been with CBA for eight years, having also previously served as co-head of economic and market analysis at Citigroup Australia/NZ. He was chair of the Australian Business Economists for nine years and is a currently a director on the board of Commonwealth Bank Group Super.
