Ardea appoints retail funds head

Fixed income manager Ardea Investment Management has appointed a new head of retail funds.

Gopi Karunakaran joins Ardea from Saka Capital in Singapore, where he was a portfolio manager. Before that, he was also a portfolio manager at Tricadia Capital Management and Moore Capital Management, and a trader at Deutsche Bank.

Ardea said his appointment reflects the firm's growing retail presence, having already established a sizeable institutional client-base.

"Ardea's new appointments ensure that we are well resourced to extend our track record of actively managing defensive fixed income portfolios that exceed return targets, while prioritising liquidity and capital preservation," Ardea principal Ben Alexander said.

Alexander also highlighted the recent appointment of Harry Singh from Challenger. Singh will work in Ardea's investment team and will trade cash plus physical and derivative instruments.
